You don't take things from it instead, the game will offer you places to put your items as appropriate. I get that a lot of gamers don't like to be left alone to figure things out, but I do.
After that, it was up to me to figure out what to do. However, I found the in-game tutorial helpful enough to get me on my way. That generally means you don't get a lot of instruction. Definitely the weirdest game I've ever played! Karma is strictly an adventure game.
